Tenebrae Service

April 11, 2011 Add comment

Good Friday evening service at The Salvation Army Yorkminster Citadel, on Yonge Street immediately south of the 401 Highway (east side of Yonge), Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Free admission. 8 p.m.

The traditional Good Friday service of Tenebrae is a liturgical worship event based in the traditions of the Anglican Church.

Tenebrae is Latin for shadows. The purpose of the service is to recreate the emotional aspects of the passion story. This year Yorkminster Citadel will use tenebrae as a basis for a unique Good Friday festival of worship, aided by music, dance, and responsive Scripture, that will come together in a colourful and dramatic climax.

Please note that this is an evening event, designed to take advantage of the darkness of the encroaching night as one of the dramatic elements.
